The Blinding Darkness | Anden Ansari

“To work magic is to weave the unseen forces into form; to soar beyond sight; to explore the uncharted dream realm of the hidden reality.”

Quote by Starhawk.

Sound asleep and alone Davy Strongman is awakened. Confused by

his surroundings Davy finds himself inside a lonely and

extremely dark room. With nothing but a small light to show a locked door.

In the dark, a voice calls out to Davy,

“so you have finally awoken from your slumber.” The voice is calm and soothing.

“Don’t you know why you are in this room?” The voice asks. “No.” Davy responds

“Everything in your life is perfect Davy. You may live a Swiss life, but you would disgust               anyone listening to this conversation. Anyone who knows, Davy.” The voice is a lot more

deadly and threatening than before. “I don't understand...” Davy calls out.

But Davy is met with silence.

Davy decides to check his surroundings. From what he can make out, he is in a concrete room with concrete walls and a cold, bitter feeling. There is also a large wooden door that could be mistaken for the entrance of a castle. Davy approaches the locked door, and as he is leaning over to look through the gap in the lock of the door. He finally gets his response from before.

“You will find out soon enough my friend.” The dark voice says conclusively. Davy gets scared for just a moment but composes himself enough to process what just happened. He wonders why the voice would let him explore the room before getting his well deserved response.

Suddenly the locked door opens and Davy understands that he has no choice here. He is but a puppet to a master. He walks through the door and thinks to himself  “What a coward this guy is. Kidnapping me in my sleep, taking me away from my beautiful wife! And won't even talk to me face to face! I’ll show him what I can do as soon as I find him!” As Davy walks through the hallway, he notices that the floor is unusually cold, even for concrete. It's almost like he is walking on ice, but without the ice being slippery. Davy finally gets to the end of a hallway that feels like it took forever to walk through, But when turning around to acknowledge his progress. Davy is met with a wall. So Davy has no choice at all anymore, and Davy does not want to question what just happened in fear of his life.

Davy explores the room he was trapped inside of again, inside there are a few things that Davy can make out in the darkness. A large chamber with a pink bear at the bottom, the bear has a key on a necklace it's wearing but Davy could not reach it if he tried. Inside the other parts of the room there is a chair, another locked door, and a rope in the shape of a noose.

Another man steps out of the darkness behind Davy. But just enough to see the body of the man, not the face.

When Davy turns around, he is met with the man standing so calmly in front of him. Startling Davy. After collecting himself Davy confronts the figure,

“Who are you? Where did you come from? why am I here?” The man in the darkness replies in a familiar voice.

“I am the man from the speakers. I didn't want to wake you, so I let you come to me. I came from the darkness spilling out into the room. And you are here because of the horrible things you have done.”

Confused, Davy wonders how he will get out of this place and return home to his loving wife. As he turns around to ask the man what he needs to do to leave. He notices that the man is already gone. And Davy is left by himself in a cold concrete room to find his way out alone, in the dark.

Davy thinks of every way he can get out. He barges the door, but it does not move. Davy Calls out for the man again, but nobody answers. Davy begins to panic and try to think of more desperate ways of escape. Davy, says any reasonable password that can come to mind. He twists the doorknob in a random, desperate code. And finally, Davy cries to himself, losing hope that nobody will ever see him again. And his suffering is unbearable. Davy gives up and he approaches the chair and places it under the noose. He steps on the chair and grabs the noose to wrap around his neck. But instead, The rope falls upon being grabbed. And hope is restored to Davy. He wonders what he can do with the fallen noose. After contemplating his options, Davy throws the noose down the chamber with the pink bear and wraps it around the bear's neck. And begins to pull the bear to him. And grabs the key off of the bear's necklace.

“Strange.” Dacy thinks to himself, “I’ve seen this bear before.” Unaware of the pink bear's origin, Davy decides its best not to think about it and uses the key to unlock the door.

Going through the wooden door, Davy feels a chill run up his spine as he enters the next room. The next room is also made up of concrete but this time. It's a blinding light everywhere. And it reveals the mold, the dirt, and the bugs crawling through the dungeon that Davy is trapped in. This place is forgotten but remembered at the same time. Because everything inside feels familiar in its own gruesome way.

Davy notices the dark man waiting for him at the center of the room. Behind him, A huge painting of someone familiar. The little girl in the painting looks like Davy’s wife. The dark man says something to Davy, “Hello again Davy. I believe I must offer you an explanation of what is going on. My name is Ivan Grouterson, and I am here to punish you for your actions.” Davy is confused by Ivan. But as Davy opens his mouth to speak, he is interrupted by Ivan, “Don’t you remember?” The lights of the room flicker on and off. The room feels cold, the air feels heavy and the room feels smaller than it did just a moment ago.

The lights finally flicker back on and Ivan is nowhere to be seen. Davy looks up at the painting and studies it closely.

And then he remembers.

“MY DAUGHTER! HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN MY OWN DAUGHTER!” Davy yells. And after he does, a door hidden behind the painting swings open and bursts through the painting, destroying it. And on the other side of the door, the outside awaits Davy and he runs home to return to his loving family consisting of a wife and daughter.
