Sanctuary in my Eyes | Lauren Dunmire (11)

I close my eyes

My dark crystalized eyes

While the bitter cold air brushes against my face

My lips start to quiver and turn a pale pink color

I open my eyes and see the snow start to fall

Every snowflake a different pattern and shape

Just like the 7 billion people in this world

I look in the mirror and see my deep blue eyes

Just like the Pacific Ocean

Filled with things you can’t even begin to imagine

The diverging paths of our brains, connected in some sort of way

All of us having dreams of passion and ingenuity

I lay down on my bed

The crashing of waves blow through my ears

Wind squandering around my head

Making me want to sleep

Only to wake up and relive the same day over and over again

Just like everyone does

Just like every animal does

Every creature

I feel around and find small granules of rice in a heated pillow

The heat burning my stomach

Making me feel soft and gushy

Making my heart feel full and happy

Smelling it feels like home

My eyelashes are pulling my eyes down

Feeling the sense of sleep in my future

I close my eyes and overthink

My thoughts flooding my head

Drowning out all the negative, obstructive thoughts

As I let my deep blue ocean eyes wash over me

Over and over again

Finding peace within
