"Unorthodox"

Unorthodox meaning different.

Unorthodox meaning unconventional.

Unorthodox, something I don't wish to be.

A whirlwind of people,

a white blur everywhere I go.

Laughter and giggles dance in the air,

couples stroll, and clusters form.

Groups of people meander together,

their voices come into a harmonious rhythm.

But amidst the vibrance

I stand across the sea of connection.

Across the Atlantic, I am a monument.

In the center of a city

anchored to the ground,

I have nowhere to go.

Trapped with myself

I stand day and night

Alone

Waiting to be recognized,

Yearning to stroll in pairs, in clusters

In groups.

Eager to become an element of them

anticipating the moments

where I can giggle, laugh, and walk alongside others

I gaze at my reflection in the mirror

My loose, long braid behind my back,

A delicately embroidered shirt with black pants.

And pearl-black eyes, questioning the world.

Then it ignites,

my accent, my language

my style, and my personality

Unique from any other

My unorthodox life,

a mosaic of emotions, and experiences

Which shaped me and who I am.

So I am unorthodox:

Different, and unconventional.
