I don’t remember the blessing of my birth,
But I do remember the curse that comes after,
Living,
Breathing,
Running,
Eating,
Praying,
For a fix, a cure, hope,
I think we’ve all wrestled our minds this fruitlessness,
Philosophy, chemistry, anatomy,
All stemming a magical combination of fear,
Wanting,
Desperation,
Is it enough?
Oh,
Is the elixir of life so far fetched even a ‘so-called’ King cannot save himself from damnation?
The Qin emperor could not be saved,
Wine and mercury,
Another futile combination,
Life, immortality, is this what I live for?
Why is this obsession,
Fascination,
The reason why so many begin breaking,
Straining for a miracle so hard to come by?
Yes,
I too want this,
Immortality,
Omnipotence,
An internal gift,
No, I don’t think it will stop,
Afterall, I cannot miss the daffodils that bloom every April,
The birth of the baby ducklings,
The red-orange that overtakes the countryside in October,
Will humanity’s craving for everlastingness ever be granted,
In a world so full of unsung beauty?
