it was white at first.
the clouds were thick, moving fluidly.
i watched in wonder,
head tilted back,
mesmerized, as the clouds rose towards the heavens.
they danced with each other, slowly, softly blanketing our sky,
draping their warmth around my mouth,
suffocating.
the clouds shrivel, dying,
the dancers’ ashes spilling from our sky,
turning our world to shadow.
the ground is shaking,
and everything i believed was stagnant and certain is painfully unknown,
the unrelenting night infinite.
all i know are voices.
blind in darkness but not deaf,
i wish i were - when all i hear is the
shrieking of mothers and fathers,
the wails of children,
pleading to the gods for mercy as our world engulfs in black.
finally the darkness enters me,
burning my lungs like a flame,
blanket tucking me into the night,
all is silent
still
