Nanci Bush - Advisor
Hi, I’m Mrs. Bush and I’ve been advising Images since 2004. I’m really impressed by my staff and all of their creative ideas for publishing student work. In my free time, I like to travel, to read (Ella Minnow Pea is my favorite book), and to enjoy the changing seasons while walking Brutus at the park. My undergraduate majors were English and English Education. My Masters was in Curriculum and Instruction.
Sandy Shen - Editor-in-Chief
Hey, I’m Sandy and I’m the Editor-in-Chief of Images! I’ve been in Images since 10th grade and find inspiration from delicious food (curry is my favorite if you don’t already know), good books, and family members to write and draw. Aside from art, I also love to cook, bake, and play the viola. After high school, I plan on studying business administration. Or public health. Or international affairs. Or something along those lines.
Brendan Wang - Literary Director
Hey, I’m Brendan and I’m the Literary Director of Images. As a twin, I carry a strong passion for the arts, acting, writing, and chicken wings. In my free time, I like to play and watch basketball, beatbox and fish. I am inspired by technology and the world of possibilities associated with it. I love science fiction and action movies such as Interstellar and The Avengers. During college, I aspire to major in finance, business and computer science.
Hayden Mesnick - Arts Director
Hey, I’m Hayden and I’m the Art Director of Images. I’ve been in the club since freshman year and I enjoy composing music, reading, and sleeping. I play the piano, french horn, and mellophone, and “play” a variety of other instruments, ranging from kalimba to trombone. I draw inspiration from music (if you haven’t discerned that already) of all varieties (except country) and also from nature and my cat. I plan on studying composition and GIS in college.
Colton Wang
Hey, I’m Colton Wang, a senior currently enrolled at Solon High School. As a twin, I share a passion for acting and drawing. In my free time, I love playing basketball, rapping, playing guitar, and traveling. My academic interests include biology and technology; in the future, I want to study medicine.
Mark Wang
Hello, I’m Mark Wang, a senior at Solon and a member of Images for three years. I find inspiration in art, especially music and paintings. In my free time, I enjoy skiing, watching Bob Ross, and not using social media. Additionally, I enjoy working in an entrepreneurship club with several peers. I’m not completely set on my academic aspirations, but as of right now, I hope to study psychology and pursue psychiatry.
Amy Wang
Hello! I’m Amy, and I’m a junior that’s finally found time and motivation to join this club. For me, inspiration comes from a lot of random things, be it a really nice outfit someone is wearing, that one bird in my backyard, or the latest artist I’m stalking on Instagram (usually this one). Not really sure how it works, but anything that makes me want to sit down and draw, rather than address my responsibilities could be categorized as inspiration. Aside from art, I enjoy horror novels, mobile games, the Oxford comma, and cat videos. I really haven’t put too much thought into my major, but video game design is awfully tempting.
Timothy Huang
Warm greetings! My name is Timothy Huang, and I am a part-time member of the Images staff. As a senior in high school, I have lived only briefly, and my experiences are far too limited for me to offer a statement on inspiration. Nevertheless, what inspires me on a daily basis is the work ethic of my older sibling. I see his tenacity and his ability to focus and wish to emulate these qualities.
I think it is due in part to my lack of focus that I have not developed my hobbies to the extent I would like. For example, I consider myself a runner, but I do not commit to it seriously enough. As for potential creative hobbies, such as learning to play bassoon or learning to cook, I just need to get the ball rolling, which means setting aside the necessary time each week and balancing everything in my schedule.
By far one of my interests is history. Creativity comes into play when I think to myself and imagine how things would have gone differently if history were different. Perhaps one day I will write a work of fiction based on alternate history. I am especially fascinated by the French Revolution and often wonder about how everything would have turned out if Napoleon were never overthrown. I see myself in the far future as a confident computational linguist working as an employee for any one of the agencies of the federal government.
Darin Daly
Hi, I’m Darin and I’m in 10th grade and a new member of Images. I’m inspired by many things such as: certain types of music, other people like my father and sister, some types of images, and different types of cultures. These examples all inspire me because they influence how I think and view certain topics. I like to watch anime, play the viola, eat and make food, watch movies, and talk to friends. I'm very interested in architecture, astronomy, and criminal justice. Currently, I’m aiming to become an architect, but I am very interested in some form of criminal justice.
Gina Kong
My name is Gina Kong and I am a junior at SHS. I started reading books at a very young age, (good 'ole Junie B. Jones) and I almost immediately began writing soon after. My favorite book genres are science fiction and fantasy but I have extremely high standards for books that I fall into my favorites category, books that I would recommend to others. My most favorite fantasy series is either Harry Potter (mainstream) by J.K Rowling or the Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima. My most favorite individual book is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. By being part of the Images staff I hope to spread my love for literature throughout the student body and express how talented we all really are!
Lorena Ianiro
Hi, I’m Lorena. As an aspiring illustration major, I was naturally drawn to Images and decided to join this year as a senior. I’m a Potterhead, a cat lady, a [noun]. [transition] My hobbies start with ‘T’ and end with ‘aco Bell.’ Alright, I’m just joking around. But even though I consider myself as more of a visual kind of gal, I like to appreciate all forms of art: leedle, poetry, leedle, and lee. I make an effort to appreciate a wide variety of subjects, too, as seemingly duller topics [examples?] can be just as inspirational as the liberal arts. And when it’s two in the morning and inspiration hits me like a bus, I find myself in the kitchen perfecting my limeade [tomato soup] recipe or [flipping through the pages of a book] just as often as I find myself picking up a paintbrush.
Mehmet Yilmaz
Hello! My name is Mehmet Yilmaz and I am currently attending Solon High School as a junior. Some of the things that inspire me are the constant stream of breakthroughs within the intertwined fields of technology and science, the majesty and grace of nature, and the power of the human imagination. My interest in technological and scientific advances strongly contribute to my liking of science fiction, which I have had for quite some time. I also enjoy historical fiction and some nonfiction books. I like listening to music to stimulate my imagination and to take my mind off of things when I feel particularly stressed. My part-time hobbies include drawing, making paper airplanes, playing video games, reading, researching (whatever I find to be most interesting at the moment), making up stories, watching movies, etc. As of right now, I’m between three different possibilities for a career: Computer Science/Engineering, Entrepreneurship/Business, or Medicine.
Lara Decastecker
Hello, I’m Lara. I’m a junior and I just joined images this year. I’m inspired by many poets and aspiring songwriters featured in the media alongside my parents and friends. These sorts of people inspire me because they propel (in a way) me towards the hope of achieving some of my artistic dreams. Concerning the arts, my hobbies and interests include writing poetry, attempting to write songs and stories, and playing piano. I’m not quite sure about what I want to pursue in college. I’d either like to major in political science with a minor in international relations or major in an art field (such as journalism or creative writing) and minor in business.
Melissa Ellin
Hi, I’m Melissa. I’m a senior and this is my second year on Images staff. I draw inspiration from people in everyday life who stand up for what they believe in. My hobbies include writing (I plan on being a journalist -- look out for my name!), reading, binge-watching tv show, vegging on the couch watching movies and ranting about literally everything. In the future, you can catch me in a major city writing for a newspaper or magazine -- sorry Ohio but you won’t be seeing me after graduation unless I’m visiting friends.
Hannah Rosenberg
Hi! I’m Hannah, a senior and new member of images. I love all types of art, and I’m weirdly good at writing music for specific classes (my best ones were for APUSH and AP Psych). My biggest inspiration is probably from any kind of street art, whether it’s sidewalk chalk, bucket drumming, or acrobatics. I aspire to be a creative person, though I’m not sure what I will be creating yet.
Wenzhao Qiu
Halloa, people scrolling through the staff bios! I am Wenzhao, a junior who forgot to make a submission for Images last year and thus has joined the club this year to fix her faulty memory. At the risk of sounding mildly insane, most of my inspiration comes from the imaginary people constantly screaming at each other inside my head. (Make of that what you will.) My hobbies include writing about said people by inserting them into convoluted plots as powerless characters and playing god as I manipulate their fictional lives. It’s great stress relief, really. :)
Joelle Fisher
Hey, I’m Joelle, a junior and new member to the club this year. I love acting, singing, and dancing as well as performing in general. I enjoy drawing, playing with my pets, and jogging. I aspire to major in film acting/performance arts at a college in either NYC or LA. Additionally, I want to travel to every continent before I’m 25 (excluding Antarctica).
Sammy Jennings
Hi, I’m Sammy, a sophomore new to Images and Solon High School. In my free time I can be found reading all kinds of book genres, writing poetry, singing, and watching movies classics. Some of the topics I am inspired by include; nature, love, emotions, and traveling. I am enchanted by the simple, subtle details in life, which can be seen through my work. Although I am not completely sure what I want to do with my life after SHS, I aspire to travel the world, and then go from there.
Lily Richards
Hey, I’m Lily and this year I’m a junior and a new member of Images. I’m inspired by many things, a few being my family and friends, love, autumn, and music. Some of my favorite things to do are write, mainly short poems or epigrams, go to concerts, play guitar, and watch movies or read. I’m considering studying marketing and creative writing to work in advertising, and hope to eventually live in New York City.
Jess Hrich
Hi there! I’m Jess, a junior, and I’m excited to be a new member of Images this year. Generally, I tend to find inspiration in the beauty of everyday things. This inspiration tends to nest itself in every moment I spend as an active member of our drama club and show choir as well as moments spent creatively writing on my own time. I can’t wait to see where art and creation will nestle themselves into my future as I explore helping professions and (hopefully) open a million non-profits.
