Sleep | Wenzhao Qiu

Eyes flutter shut.

Lights dim.

A dark chasm opens and yawns…

Then begins to grin.

Fearfully, we stand at the edge.

Helplessly, we shudder.

How far does imagination truly stretch?

That we shall soon discover.

Falling quickly through Wonderland,

Greeting Titania along the way;

Past dreams crumble like sand,

Dissolving from ecstatic decay.

How far is it this time?

How deep must we go?

Sanity recedes from mind,

Consumed by shadow.

A millennia passes,

Yet only a few seconds tick by;

In a world filled with ashes,

Lord Kronos is no ally.

But then—

Then, like cursed miracles,

More feverish visions draw near…

And swallow us whole,

With guileful black allure.

Yet—we go quite willingly

Into their false reality,

For it would be a pity to reject

Such a generous mercy.

Better to hide

Than to play with fear,

Better to dream

Than to leave the mind clear,

Or otherwise the vision

Shall descend into nightmare.
