In the Vast Desert | Hayden Mesnick

In the vast desert

—miles of yellow sand—

lay the treasure.

Buried for thousands of years,

it sat

alone

under the miles of yellow sand.

Miles of yellow sand,

he trekked.

He combed the land

for endless days.

The days were endless.

The journey he took

was never recorded—

his story never told.

In the end

the miles of yellow sand

the endless days unending

he never found it.

Instead,

his mother called him in for dinner.

He left the sandbox,

his treasure unfound.
