Weight | Catherine Shong

The windows are shut

Gravity, both metaphorical and literal

Bring it down.

Bring me down.

I am caged within my own skin

It is dull here.

A slow throb pulses from

The veins running through my left wrist.

I think

My body never felt this sluggishly hollow

I think

I never felt my bones this filled with marrow

I think

Will it be like this again tomorrow?

The floor holds up my right arm

A thump as it pushes against the ground

It buzzes against my ears

I am supported by my own skeleton

Carry me up.

Vertebrae by vertebrae

Energy, both metaphorical and literal

Push the door open.
