Misty Eyes | Maria Kloboves

Misty eyes look up at me,

Begging me to set them free.

The door is opened, the outside pours in-

Cold wind nips my toes and frosts my hair.

Small paws pitter-patter across the tile,

She seems to be taking quite a while.

A gray nose traces patterns in the snow,

She wanders out- I wonder how far she’ll go.

As a dog stumbles through the yard,

My mind soars back in time.

The sun was golden yellow-

Our young lab was not quite mellow.

Memories of hikes fill my mind to the brim,

The lab starts to sniff the house’s trim.

Missing cookies and birthday cakes,

The dog has wandered over to the rakes.

The cold wind strikes the glass,

Reality has come to take me back.

Split nails scratch the door-

I grab the towel from the floor.

She settles back upon her bed,

Upon the side she rests her head.

Misty eyes look up at me,

Just a reminder to chase those dreams.
