The Symphony of Life | Riley Lavine (12)

In the beginning it starts off slow

the musicians take their positions

and hold their instruments low

like a newborn baby who lets off a bright glow

and stretches while looking around at everything she doesn’t know.

Soon the music builds and begins to find its flow

the tempo increases and instruments are added,

they all play in unison and everything just goes.

The child pulls on her backpack and walks out the door

she waves to her mother, nervous, but won’t let it show.

She smiles at another young girl and meets her with a small greeting

her mother watches her daughter make a friend and her heart starts to glow.

Now the music slows, the notes somber and low,

The violins play quietly and the piano grows quiet.

The girl hides in her room, the tears streaming down as her pain starts to grow,

She looks at the pictures on her phone, her friends all together while she is home alone.

Her mother knocks on the door, asking if she's alright

The girl says yes even though she wants to be held, but she knows that she is too grown.

Finally the music rises, inching closer to the end,

All the instruments come together, telling a story of a girl.

Telling a story of bravery, friendship and pain,

notes that rise, fall, and stay.

The girl feels happiness, sadness and balance

as the music continues to sway.

It is the symphony of life

It is the symphony of her life and all that it conveys.
